Experience

I began my career in education as a media specialist with the Douglas County School System after graduating from West Georgia College.  My first job was at Beulah Elementary in 1980, and since that time I have worked at Lithia Springs High School, Dorsett Shoals Elementary, Factory Shoals Elementary, Douglas County High School, and South Douglas Elementary.  When Sweetwater Elementary School opened in the fall of 1997, I was excited to transfer to the home of the "Knights."

The 2016-2017 school year marks my 37th year in education with the Douglas County School System. Through the years I have been able to work with and learn from talented professionals who have dedicated their lives to the children in our county.  I am so proud to be a part of our school system!

Bio

I am originally from Temple, Georgia, in Carroll County, where I received the best "small town" upbringing ever.  In 1986 I bought my first home and moved to Douglasville to be nearer to the school where I worked at the time.  I've enjoyed living in Douglas County all these years, but in the summer of 2015 I sold my home to down-size and move to Vinings.

My hobbies include gardening, reading, and trying to keep my life organized.  Organization has become a real hobby for me because of my recent down-sizing adventure!  I would love to tell everyone that I am a gourmet cook and an exercise fanatic, but those things haven't worked out for me.  As a gardener, my favorite plants to grow are irises, which I think are the most beautiful flowers that bloom in the spring.  I do enjoy reading, especially magazines.  For books, my favorite author is Nicholas Sparks.  My favorite children's book is "Charlotte's Web."

I believe that it is important to give back to the community.  I am a member of the Junior League of Douglas County, as well as Optimist International, a civic/service organization that works to bring out the best in kids.  The Optimist International organization has offered me tremendous opportunities, not only as a volunteer working with the young people we serve, but also as a Certified International Trainer, helping our adult members to excel.  I was honored to serve as the Optimist International Vice President for the Southeast Region during 2014-2015.

A quote from Helen Keller best expresses my philosophy of life:  "The best and most beautiful things in the world can not be seen or even touched.  They must be felt within the heart."
